THE LIVING HISTORY CAMP
During the weekend we created a Living History encampment in the ground of
this National Trust Property. During the day there people were able to
meet Pikemen, Musketeers and
Camp Followers.
The
Displays
There were also displays throughout the day, including showing how the pikemen
fight as a unit or Pike Block, how the musketeers load and fire their muskets and
fight as a Musket Block, and the equipment used by the cavalry, featured below:

THE
SKIRMISH
In the afternoon we illustrated what might happen when a country house is
found, by a group of hungry soldiers, to be lightly defended . Pictures of
this are shown below:
A group of hungry soldiers marching across the countryside.
The group includes musketeers and an officer.
The group includes pikemen and a pike commander.
The group's officer demands food and shelter but the venerable owner refuses.
Others within the house start to mount a defence.
The musketeers are repelled.
The pikemen go in to support the musketeers.
The pikemen attack the country house.
The defenders again repel the attack.
The musketeers fire upon the country house.
The women pick up muskets to return fire upon the musketeers.
Following their volley the musketeers go in again.
Again the land owner has to fight for his life.
Others come out to defend the house.
The officer calls in the pikemen to join in the attack with the musketeers.
The combined attack pays off as the group of soldiers get the upper hand.
The attacking pike commander has been killed by the land owner.
The land owner is outnumbered and captured.
The land owner has been executed. The soldiers will eat well tonight.

MUSKET FIRING
Following the skirmish, the musketeers demonstrate the noise of the muskets
by firing across the valley.
